Our sister company GC Books will be launching their latest book at the Wigtown Book Festival. On
Sunday 26th September author Julia C MacDonald will be talking about her fascinating new work
"U Boat! Shipping Losses Along the Wigtownshire Coast in the First World War." The event is being held
as part of the festival fringe at the Old Bank Bookshop in Wigtown at 12 noon. The event is free but ticketed
and tickets are available from us at Solway Books or from the Festival Box Office.

Julia's new book details how the reality of war was brought home to the people of Wigtownshire when the deadly
U Boats brought death and destruction to the area's coast. The busy off shore shipping lanes proved to be a tempting
target for this weapon of stealth. The new book gives examples of the losses and highlights the effectiveness of these
early submarines and devastating their secretive attacks were on shipping.

College lecturer, Julia MacDonald has produced a well researched record of the shipping losses but more importantly
she examines the cost in human lives of a war which came so close to the shores of south-west Scotland.
